Kauani is a project by Inés Quezada, a Mexican textile designer, and Inés Llasera, a product designer from Madrid. Their practice focuses on producing textile luminaires inspired by botanical elements. The study and observation of shapes, colors, textures, patterns, origins, and contexts are the starting points for Kauani's luminaires.
They work on projects of various scales, distributing their collection of domestic lamps and creating large-scale spatial installations with artisanal pieces.
In 2021, they presented their first prototypes at the Madrid Design Festival, and in recent years they have exhibited at Maison & Objet in Paris, CCCC Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània in Valencia, Moneo Brock Gallery in Madrid, and currently at La Fundación Casa de México with the installation "Kauani: Al sol de los frutos."
Inés Quezada is a Mexican textile designer specializing in knitting. Her practice explores the versatility of textiles as a material, applying it in garments, objects, lighting, art, and architecture. She focuses on the relationship between traditional textiles and contemporary design, with projects ranging from unique handcrafted pieces to collections intended for industrial development. Her work emphasizes the transition from the initial source, often found in nature, to the final clarity of form. She is the co-founder of Kauani, a project of textile lamps inspired by native Mexican flora.
Inés Llasera is a product designer based in Madrid. She co-founded the design office 'Tornasol Studio' in 2017, where she creates furniture, lighting, displays, and spatial installations. Her methodology centers on material exploration, identity search, and artisanal experimentation. She currently works as a window dresser for Hermès and is the Program Leader of the Master's in Product Design at IED Instituto Europeo de Diseño in Madrid.
